Stairlift Measurement Guide
Eden Mobility's Virtual Survey eliminates the need for a traditional ‘face-to-face’ appointment with one of our surveyors at your home.
To arrange your Virtual Survey call our team today on 0800 9777 841 and they will book your appointment. With your help our surveyor will assess your needs and survey your staircase. They will then be able to provide you with a no obligation quote for your stairlift.

Step 1: Installation side
Stand at the bottom of your stairs and look up the staircase. This will help determine whether the stairlift should be fitted on theleft sideor theright side. We generally install on the wall side but if you’re unsure which side is best we’ll happily advise.
-
Step 2: Staircase length / aline measurement
Stand at the top of your staircase and measure from the nose of the top step (A) and run your tape measure down the staircase. Make sure that the tape measure is touching every edge of each stair tread, and the tip of the tape measure should sit on to the bottom floor area (B).
Please be careful when stood at the top of your stairs
-
Step 3: Staircase width
Measure the width of your staircase from the narrowest point (C) to (D) making sure to measure from the skirting board and not the wall. Please remember to taker into account all newel posts or other hazards which might impede the stairlift during travel.
-
Step 4: Bottom clearing measurement
Measure from the kick plate of the bottom stair tread (E) to the nearest obstacle (F). These obstacles could include a radiator, door opening or cupboard. When you measure the clearing distance it will tell you how much space you have available at the bottom of the stairs. A minimum distance of around 18"-20" is needed for a stairlift to ‘park’ or for getting on/off safely.
If you do not have space you may need a hinged rail.
